As of 2025, publicly known gay bars and LGBTQ+ friendly venues do not exist in Baghdad, Iraq. Due to a law passed in 2024, homosexuality is explicitly criminalized in Iraq, with penalties including up to 15 years in prison, fines, and deportation. The law also criminalizes “promoting homosexuality” and carries a prison sentence of up to seven years.
